Markes International Ltd (Llantrisant, UK) has announced the publication of a new application note on the cryogen-free measurement of trace-level ultra-volatile compounds in air including CFC’s (chlorofluorocarbons) and HCFC’s (hydrochlorofluorocarbons).

Though only present at ppt and ppb levels these compounds have both high Global Warming Potential (GWP) and high Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP). The work described in the technical note demonstrates on-line or canister-based air monitoring technology offering low or sub ppt detection limits for N2O, SF6, CF4, C2F6. It also shows system compatibility with the full range of hazardous air pollutants, specified by US EPA as ‘air toxics’. Full analytical conditions and analytical performance details are described in the 6-page note.

The company has also announced updates to previous technical notes:

• TDTS 81: Analysis of canister air samples using cryogen-free thermal desorption in compliance with US EPA method TO-15

• TDTS 86: US EPA Method TO-17 for monitoring ‘air toxics’ in ambient air using sorbent tubes and automated, cryogen-free thermal desorption

• TDTS 59: Direct desorption of Car Trim Materials for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and Semi-volatile Organic Compounds (SVOC) analysis. In accordance with method VDA 278
