The Thermo Scientific BioBank™ is an automated sample library management system that provides high capacity storage for biological samples at a safe ‑80°C. The BioBank’s robotics are isolated from the ultra-low-temperature area for maximum reliability, and the unique rack system minimizes exposure to ambient conditions during storage and retrieval. Samples can be retrieved in less than 40 seconds, eliminating bottlenecks and increasing efficiency.

The BioBank system comes preloaded with Supervisor software — a sophisticated control and tracking package that simplifies operation and ensures sample integrity. Supervisor’s easy-to-use worklist interface allows users to specify plate loading, storage, and retrieval schemes. A bar code reader logs each plate into the BioBank database, ensuring 100% sample traceability. The Supervisor software builds a complete information profile for each plate, continuously recording its location, temperature history, and any operations performed. Supervisor communicates with any automation or laboratory information management systems (LIMS) through an ActiveX interface.

The Thermo Scientific BioBank has a patented rack and robotic system that optimizes automated storage and retrieval of samples. The relative humidity in the robotics enclosure is always < 5%, minimizing frost buildup at all times. The BioBank is compatible with any SBS consumable on the market, storing shallow well plates, half deep well plates, deep well plates and cryotube racks. It has a capacity of 984 standard plates and integrates quickly and seamlessly with virtually any automated laboratory process, making it ideal for applications such as biorepositories, cell libraries or libraries of very thermo sensitive molecules.
