Artel will showcase its new DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) reagent solution at Pittcon 2013. For use with the company's MVS® Multichannel Verification System, the new solution enables users to accurately calibrate and verify DMSO dispenses. DMSO is widely used for storing and transferring small-molecule compounds during high-throughput screening campaigns. Because DMSO has distinct physical properties, it behaves differently from water when handled by air-displacement pipettors and acoustic droplet ejectors. This new Artel solution enables DMSO solvent-specific volume verification.

The MVS is an easy-to-use, universal system that verifies the volume-transfer performance of automated liquid handling systems and multichannel handheld pipettes. The MVS consists of equipment, software, sample solutions and highly characterized microtiter plates. The system is suitable for liquid volume measurements from 0.1 to 350.0_L in a 96-well plate format or from 0.01 to 55 _L in 384 wells.

"We have many customers who are involved in high-throughput screening, where ensuring the accuracy and precision of their critical liquid handling steps is crucial if they are to generate meaningful assay," explained Tanya Knaide, MVS product manager for Artel. "This new product meets the needs of customers using submicroliter dispensing technologies, giving them the ability to standardize their liquid handlers using a DMSO-based solution."
