The Vortex stirrer system from Asynt, a new addition to the popular DrySyn™ range, converts a single overhead stirrer into a powerful 3 position parallel stirrer combined with a multiple heating block. When used with a standard laboratory hotplate, the unit becomes a very compact, flexible reaction station capable of running up to 3 parallel reactions in conventional round-bottomed flasks, with directly driven mechanical stirring.

Viscous reaction mixtures often require a powerful stirrer and Vortex provides the competent solution while retaining all the DrySyn benefits—improved safety, rapid heat transfer and space saving. Another benefit of overhead stirring is that the grinding effects that can occur with magnetic—stirrers on solids, especially crystals, are largely eliminated.

The Vortex system operates with any standard overhead stirrer to give simultaneous, directly driven stirring for up to three 100ml, 250ml or 500ml flasks. It can be used at stirring speeds from 50 to 500 rpm and at temperatures up to 200ºC. For added convenience Vortex is available from Asynt as a ready-to-go package, complete with a Heidolph model RZR 2052 overhead stirrer and the necessary inserts for the three different flask sizes.

The DrySyn range of laboratory heating blocks provides efficient temperature control for reaction flasks from 50ml to 5000ml, without the need for dangerous, messy oil baths. Many units are now in use world wide. The DrySyn concept was developed in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry at Cambridge University.
