Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc, a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, today announced the launch of the Gene Pulser MXcell ShockPod™ cuvette chamber for Bio‑Rad’s Gene Pulser MXcell electroporation system. The ShockPod offers researchers the flexibility to easily transition between electroporation plates and familiar cuvettes on the Gene Pulser MXcell electroporation system.

With the ShockPod, the MXcell system can electroporate as few as 100,000 cells in a 96-well plate or as many as 10 million cells in a 12-well plate or cuvette. Regardless of delivery format, the ShockPod provides researchers with reliable data and highly reproducible results.

“With the MXcell plate chamber and ShockPod, researchers can quickly achieve highly reproducible results using the same protocol for either electroporation plate or cuvette format,” said Michelle Collins, Bio-Rad Global Product Manager, Gene Expression Division.

Critical to the success of any electroporation experiment is the ability to optimize experimental conditions. This leads to increased transfection efficiency while maintaining cell viability and the need for less precious sample such as primary cells. As with the plate formats, electroporation conditions using the ShockPod can be easily and rapidly optimized.

Another key feature of the Gene Pulser MXcell electroporation system is that every critical parameter is programmable—from voltage to number of pulses—enabling researchers to find the ideal set of conditions for their specific cells. This permits highly efficient delivery of molecules (e.g. DNA and siRNA) into mammalian cells, especially difficult-to-transfect cells such as primary and stem cells. A comprehensive set of protocols for mammalian cell lines submitted by scientists worldwide is available on the company website.
