Bio-Rad Launches Advisory Board for KnowItAll U and Editorial Board for Spectrabase
5 Jun 2007Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostics products, today announced the launch of an Advisory Board for its KnowItAll® U product, a powerful combination of spectroscopy reference databases, tools, and technologies for academic research and teaching. The company also announced the launch of an Editorial Board for SpectraBase™, a community reference spectral database that is created, edited, and reviewed by members of the community themselves.
Members of the KnowItAll U Advisory Board who will provide ongoing product guidance to Bio-Rad include:
- Grace Baysinger – Stanford University (continuing her earlier work with Bio-Rad on KnowItAll U)
- Judith Currano – The University of Pennsylvania
- Andrea Twiss-Brooks – The University of Chicago
- Dr. Engelbert Zass – ETH Zurich
Members of the SpectraBase Editorial Board who will provide editorial direction for SpectraBase as well as product guidance on KnowItAll U include:
- Dr. James de Haseth – The University of Georgia
- Dr. Peter Griffiths – The University of Idaho
- Dr. John L. Markley – The University of Wisconsin - Madison
- Dr. István Pelczer – Princeton University
- Dr. Daniel Raftery – Purdue University

KnowItAll U is a unique spectroscopy resource for research and teaching. Containing data for NMR, IR, UV-Vis, and Raman spectroscopy as well as mass spectrometry, KnowItAll U is a collection of over 1.3 million spectra—the world's largest collection. In addition, KnowItAll U includes Bio-Rad's award-winning spectroscopy and cheminformatics software, the KnowItAll Informatics System and Bio-Rad's new platform-independent web browser spectral search interface, KnowItAll AnyWare™, that runs on Windows, Macintosh, and Linux computers.
The SpectraBase database is a community reference spectral database that is created, reviewed, and edited by members of the community themselves. Data deposited in SpectraBase is attributed to the institution submitting the data, and a record-based ratings capability adds a peer review capability to the entire database.
