Bio-Rad Launches New Online ProteinChip Video Tutorial

11 Dec 2008

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, today launched a new online video tutorial that provides step-by-step instructions on the use of Bio-Rad's ProteinChip® SELDI system. The video offers researchers interested in surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization (SELDI) technology a fast and convenient way to obtain an overview of how data is collected from ProteinChip arrays on both the Enterprise and Personal editions of the ProteinChip SELDI system. The 15-minute video is available for viewing on the article website.

The online video tutorial is a key part of the new ProteinChip SELDI system starter kit. It instructs users on how to perform a number of research-related tasks including: how to read ProteinChip arrays, how to profile human serum, and how to analyze results for reproducibility and peak count.

"Bio-Rad continually seeks ways to make current technologies easier and more convenient to use," said Brett Houser, SELDI product manager, Bio-Rad. "This spirit is reflected in the latest addition to our ProteinChip SELDI product line. Our new tutorial video and ProteinChip System Starter kit provide our customers with access to complete training tools that are clear and concise enough to be used alone or as a companion to our onsite training courses. At the same time the video and starter kit provide valuable evaluation tools, so new users can feel confident about obtaining high quality data."

The ProteinChip SELDI system uses surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization (SELDI) technology to detect and calculate the mass of proteins and peptides. The system integrates ProteinChip arrays, a ProteinChip SELDI reader, and ProteinChip SELDI software to analyze samples based on measured time-of-flight (TOF). Compact enough to fit into almost any laboratory, the ProteinChip SELDI system enables direct access to precise mass analysis of peptides and proteins from complex biological samples The ProteinChip SELDI system is an ideal tool to compare samples in fast, high throughput experiments for differential expression protein analysis. Its most common application is as a profiling-based method which is the first step in protein biomarker discovery.
