Focused on the process of helping firms to move promising drug candidates into commercialization, Waters Corporation will showcase innovative UltraPerformance LC® (UPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS) solutions at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Annual Meeting and Exposition (AAPS), November 16 – 20 in Atlanta, Georgia.

With the cost of developing and commercializing new drugs at an all-time high, there is an acute need for versatile and multitasking analytical instruments that can automate routine tasks and obtain more analytical data faster with a minimum of effort. Waters® goal is to allow pharmaceutical scientists to devote more precious time to value-added, problem-solving activities that lie at the heart of the drug discovery process.

Leading Waters’ offerings at AAPS is the Xevo™ TQ MS System, an advanced tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer that allows more pharmaceutical scientists across disciplines to quickly assess the candidacy of promising new entities. Aided by the instrument’s IntelliStart™ and ScanWave™ technologies, the Xevo TQ MS produces high-quality mass spectral data at UPLC® acquisition speeds without sacrificing data quality. With tools like the Xevo TQ MS system, increases in information per unit of time – and in the value of that information - promise to greatly enhance efforts to “industrialize” the process of drug discovery on a global basis.

Waters Scientific Seminars at AAPS

Waters UPLC and MS technologies have set new standards in resolution, sensitivity and speed of analysis. To demonstrate these capabilities, Waters will host one-hour educational seminars in Hall 4C, Aisle 100, on the following topics:

Developing Robust Quantitative Bioanalysis Methods with Innovations in SPE and LC/MS/MS
High-Sensitivity Qualitative and Quantitative LC/MS: New Possibilities with an Easy-to use Tandem Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer
An Introduction to UPLC Technology
An Intelligent UPLC/TOF MS Workflow for Metabolite Identification
A Simple, Strategic Approach to Method Development
Maximizing Sensitivity and Flexibility in a Bioanalytical Assay with UPLC/MS
Earlier this year the Xevo TQ MS system was recognized by Strategic Directions International’s Instrument Business Outlook (IBO) newsletter when it selected Xevo as the Best New Product at the 2008 American Society of Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) annual meeting in June.

“Since introducing Xevo four months ago, the feedback we have received through customer demos has been outstanding,” said Brian Smith, Vice President of Mass Spectrometry for the Waters Division. “Ranging from the impact of an ‘intelligent’ tandem quadrupole MS that automatically performs all those time consuming optimization steps normally performed manually by a skilled MS operator to the novel ScanWave technology that significantly enhances the quality of spectral data, mass spectrometer users at all levels are seeing the potential that the Xevo TQ MS could bring to their laboratory.”

Waters is now shipping the Xevo TQ MS System to customers on a worldwide basis.
