Brooks Automation, Inc., the global leader in automated cold-chain sample management for drug discovery and biostorage applications, will highlight its BioStore™ III Cryo automated cryogenic sample management system, CryoPod™ carrier, and new FluidX™cryo storage consumables to the European market today at the 2015 annual conference of the European, Middle Eastern, and African Society for Biobanking and Biopreservation (ESBB) in London, U.K.

"Our new cryogenic storage and transport products offer customers sample automation, cryogenic cold-chain management, and improved security and accessibility while maintaining sample protection within a liquid nitrogen (LN2) vapor environment," said Dusty Tenney, president of Brooks Life Science Systems. "The BioStore III Cryo storage system combines the highest sample protection, improved chain of custody management, and a superior user experience - all at an affordable price. The CryoPod carrier addresses a critical unmet need in handling cryogenic samples by permitting the safe and effective transport of biospecimens between long-term storage, labs, and work benches,” said Tenney.

BioStore III Cryo Introduces Automation to Manual Storage Users

The BioStore III Cryo system enables automated storage for a large user segment of biosample storage in Europe, which currently relies on manual systems. The BioStore III Cryo integrates sample monitoring, tracking, and inventory control with Chart MVE’s proven, high-efficiency LN2 stainless steel freezer. The system can process virtually any type of sample within a cryobox format and retrieve the box in less than 60 seconds. Samples stored within the system are maintained at a temperature below -190° C.

CryoPod Features Portable Sample Transport plus Automatic Filling Station

The CryoPod carrier provides a safe, portable, and trackable solution for hand carrying temperature-sensitive, cryogenically frozen biological materials. The breakthrough technology permits more than 4 hours of -150° C temperature stability for biospecimens and therapeutics. The CryoPod displays temperature, date, and time; and features audible and visual alarms, plus data logging capabilities. It can integrate with an automated filling station that ensures hands-free, safe handling, and replenishing of the instrument’s LN2 charge in less than 15 minutes.

FluidX Product Line Introduces Cryo Storage Products

The new cryo storage products, featuring increased storage densities and enhanced sample tracking, work with the BioStore III Cryo sample management system and other cryo storage systems.

  • 2 ml Jacket™ Cryo Tube offers tri-labelled technology, a unique automation friendly cap design, and a double tread for maximizing sample security.
  • 10x10 Cryo Box/Rack enables 100 cryo-tube storage (with 2 ml Jacket Tube) in the same footprint as a traditional 9x9 box — a 20% increase in storage density.
  • 14x14 Cryo Box/Rack permits 196-tube storage in the same footprint as a traditional 9X9 cryo rack, plus unique 2D rack ID for enhanced sample tracking.
  • SBS Shuttle allows the use of an SBS standard rack in the BioStore III Cryo system or manual dewar optimized for traditional 9x9 cryo boxes.
