Cellexus Biosystems installs first customer CellMaker Lite2 disposable bioreactor in Ireland

11 Feb 2008

Cellexus Biosystems plc, the specialist in the design, manufacture and commercialisation of novel disposable technology for growing cells, announced it has sold a CellMaker Lite2™ disposable bioreactor to its first customer in Ireland. The customer is Dr Amir Khan, who is a Principal Investigator at Trinity College in Dublin.

Dr Khan is using the system to grow E.coli to produce proteins for structural studies. Commenting on his reasons for purchase, Dr Khan commented:
“The production of milligram amounts of recombinant human proteins in E.coli for subsequent purification, crystallization and X-ray structure determination is essential for the research goals of my laboratory. The CellMaker Lite2 was an attractive option over vessel fermentors for its ease-of-use and minimal maintenance requirements for my small research group. The utility of the system has already been demonstrated in the case of a marginally folded protein, whose levels of soluble expression exceeded those of traditional shaker-incubators by 3-4 fold in our hands.

Dr Ian Taylor, Commercial Director for Cellexus Biosystems, commented:
“We are very pleased to have a customer unit in Dublin since this area represents such a hotspot within the biopharmaceutical community. It is a great location for many potential customers from academia and industry to visit and see the system. I am also delighted that Dr Khan is having so much immediate tangible success using the system, with demonstrated protein yield improvements.”
