Cerno Bioscience MassWorks™ Aids Environmental Analysts to Significantly Improve Reported Mass Spectrometry Results

24 May 2006

Cerno Bioscience has today announced the environmental application of its trailblazing MassWorks™ software.

MassWorks enables environmental analysts to obtain high mass accuracy data even on Unit Mass Resolution Spectrometers with single quadrupoles. This unique software improves mass accuracy results by up to 100X, significantly improving the ability to confirm the identity of analyzed samples. In addition, the enhancement in signal-to-noise provided by the software can significantly lower the detection limits for compounds measured at trace levels.

MassWorks is an exciting development for environmental analysts, as it reduces or even eliminates the need to tune the instrument by correction of mass spectral peak shape. This allows the analyst to get on with their job rather than performing mundane tasks, and improves the interpretation and comparability of data from run-to-run. When applied to GC/MS, which typically comes with an easy-to-use on-board calibration mixture, MassWorks, with its high mass accuracy capability reaching 5ppm, enables elemental composition determination and structural elucidation even without MS/MS experimentation.

This easy-to-use post acquisition software package utilizes Cerno’s patented MSIntegrity™ technology to achieve high mass accuracy, offering environmental analysts substantially improved and accurate measurements utilizing their existing Mass Spectrometer instruments. This means they are able to achieve the results of a high-end spectrometer for a fraction of the investment. MassWorks is capable of the analysis of complex samples with substantial chemical backgrounds as well as that of unknown samples which require identification.

MassWorks benefits from Cerno’s DirectRead™ technology to interpret most instrument data formats directly, eliminating the need for importing or exporting MS data to the clipboard or utilizing intermediate exchange formats. This saves time, reduces transcription errors, simplifies file management, and saves substantial disk space. As DirectRead doesn’t alter the original data, it assists compliance with common regulatory requirements such as GLP.
