Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is an analog of the DNA base thymidine. During DNA synthesis, BrdU is substituted for thymidine and is incorporated into the newly synthesized DNA of replicating cells.

Antibodies to BrdU provide a powerful tool to detect replicating cells and are particularly popular for
