Christie Hospital Upgrades Haematology Analysers as part of a Total Laboratory Solution from Siemens

5 Jun 2007

Two new ADVIA® 2120 Haematology Systems are being supplied to Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester by Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics as part of a major laboratory equipment procurement contract encompassing Haematology, Chemistry and Immunodiagnostics.

The specialist cancer hospital has been able to source all its blood science analyser requirements through Siemens, which is also supplying two ADVIA® 1800 Chemistry Systems, an Immulite® Immunoassay System and CentraLink® data management system. In addition, the hospital is retaining its current ADVIA Centaur® Immunoassay System technology. Siemens is also partnering with Instrumentation Laboratories for the supply of new coagulation equipment to the Haematology Department. All aspects of reagent/consumables supply and instrument maintenance are covered by a managed service agreement.

As long-term users of ADVIA® technology, staff in the Haematology laboratory already have a high degree of confidence in its analytical performance. “We evaluated the ADVIA® 2120 against machines being offered by other suppliers, and the quality of the differential was one of the factors that really influenced our choice”, explains Sue Clark, Laboratory Manager for Haematology at Christie Hospital. “The differential is extremely important with our particular group of patients - especially the neutrophil count, as this provides the basis for prescribing chemotherapy. We’ve been very satisfied with the quality of the differential we get with our current ADVIA® equipment, and obtained comparable results from samples that we took on evaluation visits to other ADVIA® 2120 sites.”

Under its managed service agreement with Christie Hospital, Siemens will set up regular review meetings to monitor reagent usage and ensure that all delivery and maintenance schedules are running smoothly. By acquiring all its analytical instruments from Siemens, the hospital benefits from the convenience of procurement through a single source.
