Corning Incorporated has announced the launch of its 3D Clear Tissue Clearing Reagent, designed for rapid and easy imaging of tissues in 3D cell culture without damaging the underlying cellular morphology. This solution, manufactured and sold by Visikol, is commercially available through Corning and adds to the company’s 3D cell culture portfolio. The reagent supports the generation of 3D cell culture models and subsequent characterization in one simple workflow, allowing for advancement in drug screening and other essential areas of research.

The 3D Clear Tissue Clearing Reagent was designed specifically to be compatible with 3D cell culture models and enables researchers to simply and efficiently generate and image those models. The use of tissue clearing reagents allows for 3D cell culture models to be imaged in 3D, enabling the entire population of cells to be surveyed, allowing researchers to address complex spatial questions while improving the accuracy of their assays.

"We developed the Visikol tissue clearing technology to enable researchers to fully characterize 3D cell culture models so that they can leverage the extensive spatial data that makes these models intrinsically more valuable than traditional 2D cell culture models," said Visikol CEO Michael Johnson, Ph.D.

“At Corning, we continue to work toward breaking down the barriers to adoption for 3D cell culture models, as they have become increasingly useful in studying critical disease areas,” said Kim Titus, director of Business Operations, Corning Life Sciences. “With this new product, we aim to provide a rapid, easy-to-use process that adds a new dimension to research; making it easy for scientists to integrate 3D imaging into existing tissue processing workflows.”

Corning recently launched several products that enhance its robust 3D cell culture portfolio and help researchers create more in vivo-like environments and predictive models. The new Corning® Elplasia® plates, Matrigel® matrix for organoid culture, and Corning® Matrigel® matrix-3D plates are all innovations that advance the science of 3D cell culture. These products help researchers understand disease and ultimately bring safe, effective drugs and therapies to market in less time and with greater certainty.
