The environmental solutions built into the NexION 300 are designed from an ICP-MS user centric perspective, and dramatically enhances productivity and ease of use across the whole range of environmental samples including drinking- surface- ground- waste- and sea-water, sludge and soils.

Significant improvements have been delivered in the NexION 300:

  • Universal Cell TechnologyTM which allows the user to set up one ideal method for their matrices whether it involves standard mode, collision mode, dynamic reaction cell mode with 2 scanning mass spectrometers or a combination of modes.
  • Exceptional short and long term stability due to the break-through interface and ion-guide technology involving triple cone and quadrupole ion deflector. As no uncharged material (“dirt”) in this design hits components in the vacuum, drift and maintenance is removed maximizing the time for result production and minimizing the time for QC, recalibration and maintenance.
  • Software directly developed for ICP-MS with full integration of automated optimization procedures and quality control to assure compliance with regulations. The software can be used off-line simultaneously as the instrument operates to assure full flexibility to work on methods, approve and report data or import the next sample load while the system is in full operation.
  • Built in valve(s) and sample loop(s) that can efficiently load samples to the instrument while simultaneously washing and pre-loading the next sample to a second loop which is reducing sample to sample time dramatically.

ICP-MS has been the analytical tool of choice for low level metals concentrations in drinking water and river water analyses since the early 1990’s. United States EPA Method 200.8 first included ICP-MS in 1994. European regulations generally state the elements and the limit of detection and allow each laboratory to choose the technique. Recently (23 Sept. 2010) the EPA published a new proposal stating that the use of interference reduction technologies is allowed provided the method performance specifications relevant to ICP-MS measurements are met. With the proprietary Universal Cell TechnologyTM in the NexION 300 scientists can now choose the easiest and most cost efficient interference removal technique for running samples analysis.
