There’s now a better and safer alternative to a high-pressure mercury or metal-halide light source for fluorescence microscopy. Available from Alpha Laboratories, the pE-300white unit from CoolLED offers broad spectrum LED illumination for general use in fluorescence applications. With a comprehensive range of microscope adaptors, it can easily be fitted to most microscopes, old or new, providing a safe, convenient and economical illumination system that will last for many years without additional operating costs.

Directly replacing a mercury or metal halide lamp the pE-300white has a spectral coverage from the UV (DAPI excitation) to the Red region (Cy5 excitation). The illumination system will excite common fluorophores used in clinical and research laboratory environments. It has a long lifetime (25,000 hours) and no alignment or bulb replacement is required. The instant on/off means no warm up is needed.

The pE-300white is ideally suited for use with the AdvanDx QuickFISH™ assays, also available from Alpha Laboratories. These assays enable rapid identification of pathogen species from blood culture in just 20 minutes. Using a simple fluorescent slide based procedure they can play a critical role in improving patient outcomes by helping to identify the best antibiotic to use in sepsis cases. More targeted antibiotic therapy also helps control costs and reduce the prevalence of drug resistance.
