Theresa Wilson, a scientist within Drug Development Services at LGC, explained the range microbial testing services that are provided by LGC. These include Microbiology Services, which provide antibiotics testing and novel compound testing to identify lead compounds.

Theresa, who uses MALDI-TOF (matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight) for identification of bacterial isolates, highlighted that the system used provides an enhanced library to improve the accuracy of identification. She also notes that using MALDI-TOF "improves workflow by using enhanced working methods compared to traditional biochemical techniques".

Theresa continued to explain how the Microbiology Testing Service can help assist drug development by providing a number of antimicrobial activities. She says "It's our role to guide [the client] on antimicrobial activity and any resistance potential".
