Porvair Filtration Group, international leader in filtration and separation, has developed specialist automated assembly machinery to advance processes at its Wrexham Division.

Porvair has recently invested in the plant and processes required to manufacture complete finished devices in the market for Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) products. This capability allows the business to offer its customers the complete service for products incorporating Porvair’s state-of-the-art porous materials.

The new machinery is capable of manufacturing SPE devices at a high rate in a consistent and repeatable process that ensures high quality and reduced cost.

Porvair - recently honoured with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade - considers the capability a major step forward in its bioscience business strategy, by guaranteeing a uniform and quality product.

It is expected to become a significant cornerstone of the company’s progression from a manufacturer of porous materials, to a manufacturer of finished products, while adding value to the products that are being created for market.

The equipment, which was designed and developed by Porvair’s Project Engineer, Dave Pretorius, at its Wrexham base, is suitable for use in cleanroom environments and can also be utilised for a host of applications, including diagnostics, analytical, and synthesis products.

Thanks to the company’s automated machinery investment, the technology can be further utilised for the manufacture of many other products - and new opportunities are now being actively pursued by Porvair.

Porvair’s General Manager, Roy Rigby, said: “Our new automated assembly machinery is redefining how Porvair approaches the bioscience side of the business, ensuring higher quality products and a much stronger manufacturing focus.

“Indeed, this will have major strategic implications for Porvair, driving improvements across a wide range of applications, lowering costs, and adding value in the marketplace.

“We are also keen to explore the many possibilities that this opportunity creates, as we look to enhance our reputation as a trusted manufacturer of finished components.

“Porvair is committed to sustained innovation, and our automated assembly machinery is another demonstration of that.”

Porvair Filtration Group – which has supplied the aerospace, nuclear, energy, process and bioscience industries with performance-driven filtration equipment for almost 30 years – manufactures in both the UK and USA and has an extensive network of sales offices and distribution channels throughout the world.
