GE Healthcare Launches Mag Sepharose™ Beads
22 Jul 2009GE Healthcare has launched Mag Sepharose™ magnetic beads for the efficient capture and selective enrichment of proteins and peptides. The visible, dense magnetic beads are easy to use, with simple, flexible protocols and elution conditions optimized for both electrophoresis and MS analysis.
The Mag Sepharose beads are available within the following formats:
• TiO2 Mag Sepharose for the enrichment of phosphopeptides from complex samples
• Protein A and Protein G Mag Sepharose affinity chromatography media for the capture of target proteins by immunoprecipitation
• NHS Mag Sepharose for covalent coupling of any protein containing free amine groups, used for various types of pull-down experiments
The magnetic beads are well suited for small-scale experiments. The high density of the beads allows rapid capture by magnetic devices, while the visibility of the beads ensures reliable collection of all target protein. This allows concentration of low abundance target proteins in samples from milliliter down to microliter scale. The optimized capacity for enrichment or immunoprecipitation means that only small amounts of capturing antibody are required.
The new Mag Sepharose beads from GE Healthcare are available in two pack sizes: 1 x 500 µl which is sufficient for 10 samples; and 4 x 500 µl which is sufficient for 40 samples. When used in conjunction with MagRack 6, a separation tool for handling the beads in microcentrifuge tubes, up to six samples can be processed in parallel. The rack consists of an anodized aluminum housing with a detachable plastic bar containing six neodymium magnets. When the tubes are placed in the rack, the beads are attracted to the magnet facilitating easy removal of the supernatant whilst the beads remain in the tube.
