Innovations enable faster biological sample drying.

15 Feb 2006

Genevac, leaders in solvent removal technology, has announced several new design innovations that have enabled solvent removal times in their popular miVac centrifugal evaporator to be imroved by up to 200% without loss of sample integrity.

New 'Black Magic' solid aluminium sample rotors have improved thermal transfer. This in combination with Genevac's unique Speed Trap refrigerated solvent condenser has facilitated higher throughput, safe DNA sample preparation, plasmid purification, dye terminator removal, cell fractionation, oligonucleotide and protein precipitation experiments.

The novel Speed Trap has been designed to considerably improve the performance of a miVac, by condensing vapours back to liquid, helping to maintain a strong vacuum thus speeding up the concentration process considerably. Users of the Speed Trap can readily see the solvents in the trap, and emptying is simple, requiring no defrosting.

The miVac range is the product of extensive market research with biologists around the world and has been designed to meet the requirements for careful and speedy drying in most biological applications. Special methods for drying aqueous and alcohol-based samples are included in all the miVac models. A range of concentrators feature capacity from six to twenty stacked shallow-well microplates or 48 to 200 micro centrifuge tubes of 1.5ml size. The miVac concentrators feature full LCD display with digital controls and programming of time and temperature. A range of suitable vacuum pumps is also available, including 2-head and 4-head diaphragm pumps and an ultra-low vacuum Scroll type pump.
