Intermediates and synthesis services for drug discovery – Fulcrum Scientific at SCIpharm 2006

17 Apr 2006

Fulcrum Scientific, the European agent for a growing number of niche suppliers of intermediates and synthesis services, offers an extensive array of compounds, ideas and skills to help chemists chart a smooth course through drug discovery.

The company’s CEO, Dr Mick Durrant, is looking forward to presenting the current range of products and services at SCIpharm 2006 (14-17 May, EICC, Scotland). “Our suppliers are all carefully selected; we particularly seek out those with the hallmarks of creativity, attention to detail and an unerring dedication to the needs of their target customers,” he said. Focus Synthesis LLC, a company formed by medicinal chemists for medicinal chemists, is a prime example. Through them, Fulcrum Scientific has access to over 850 chemical building blocks suitable for diversity-oriented synthesis. The product emphasis is on rare and unique substructure classes, chemoinformatic gap fillers and atom scan precursors for highly focused combinatorial libraries.

Another supplier, Louston International Inc, specialises in custom synthesis, contract manufacturing and toll manufacturing, providing bulk active ingredients and advanced intermediates. Here, the emphasis is on aromatic fluorination, with almost one-third of the 650 research intermediates available consisting of mono- and polyfluorinated compounds.

From Synchem Inc, Fulcrum Scientific has access to close to 850 high quality synthons including unique chiral building blocks, heterocyclic compounds, chiral ligands and templates. A special focus is the design and synthesis of new building block classes that are precursors to heterocyclic systems for parallel and combinatorial chemistry.

In addition to providing ready-made compounds, Fulcrum Scientific’s suppliers also have a proven track record in custom synthesis services on a gramme to kilogramme scale.
