Introducing the Gilian Challenger® Air Flow Calibrator

5 Aug 2008

One of the most important aspects of air sampling is making a precise measurement of the air flow rate provided by the sampling pump. If the air volume collected is not precisely known, then the accuracy of the sample will suffer. To better equip Industrial Hygienists and other safety professionals looking for accurate calibration without using a soap solution, Sensidyne introduced the Gilian Challenger®. The Gilian Challenger® is an air flow calibrator for verifying and calibrating Industrial Hygiene Air Sampling Instruments and other air sampling devices. The Challenger® is accurate within 0.75% of reading and provides an LCD indication of Volumetric and Standard flow rate, barometric pressure and ambient temperature.

The heart of the Challenger® is the precision Venturi made from aluminum without any sharp edges or moving parts. As the air passes through the Venturi, the air pressure is measured in two places. The difference between the air pressures at the two points produces a signal that is proportional to air flow. It is simple, yet highly accurate and has no moving parts to fail or adjust. The instrument, depending on the configuration, is capable of covering the flow rate range of 1 to 30 LPM. The Challenger® offers a 90% recovery of pressure drop which is key to performing a reliable calibration. And because flow through the instrument is uninterrupted, our graphic software provides a continuous output display of all functions. This continuous output makes it very simple to configure The Challenger®.

The Challenger® runs on 4 AA batteries making it very portable and an excellent choice for field calibrations. Each unit is furnished with a NIST Traceable Certificate and is ready to meet your calibration needs. The new Gilian Challenger® air flow calibrator is available through Sensidyne’s distributors worldwide. The user now has two great options to meet their calibration needs, the world renown Gilibrator or the new Challenger!
