JEOL Technics Ships 10,000th Unit

28 Mar 2007

JEOL USA, a leading supplier of scientific instruments in the Americas, is proud to announce that JEOL Techniques, one of the company’s design and manufacturing branches in Akashima, Japan, has shipped its 10,000th Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).

Since JEOL, Ltd. was founded in 1949, more than 6,000 JEOL instruments have been installed in the United States, and more than 51,000 worldwide. JEOL USA opened in 1962 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of JEOL Ltd.

JEOL Technics manufactures several models of the company’s extensive SEM product line, including the JSM-6490LV series, the most popular SEM in the world. JEOL Technics currently ships nearly 500 units per year.

“The business started as a manufacturer of low cost ‘work horse’ SEMs for the budding QC industry in Japan back in the late nineteen-seventies,” said Charles Nielsen, JEOL USA Vice President and Product Manager. “Technics eventually took over design and manufacturing of the high end research grade tungsten and LaB6 SEMs from JEOL Ltd. in the late nineteen-nineties, allowing JEOL Ltd. to focus on the development of the highest quality Field Emission SEMs.”

JEOL USA President Robert Santorelli extended congratulations for shipment of the 10,000th unit during the celebration held in Japan at the JEOL Technics plant on March 28. “It is with the utmost appreciation and gratitude that we congratulate the management and employees of JEOL Technics for this remarkable achievement of the sale of ten thousand units of Scanning Electron Microscopes,” he said. “We clearly recognize the hard work and dedication of this great company. Additionally we acknowledge its people’s attitude towards the understanding of the global market requirements and Technics’ nimble ability to change to meet market requirements.”

JEOL Ltd. has a number of manufacturing sites in Japan where multiple product lines of SEMs, Transmission Electron microscopes (TEMs), NMR and Mass Spectrometers, semiconductor equipment, medical equipment, and peripherals are manufactured.

JEOL recently opened a new factory in Tendo, Japan, a three-hour bullet train ride north of Tokyo, where JEOL USA’s management team visited during the company’s October business meeting. JEOL also announced plans to build a new plant in Beijing, China, which will be completed in summer 2007. The Beijing Creative Technology Co., Ltd. is a joint venture with a Chinese corporation established in March 2002 as part of their manufacturing expansion. In addition to machining and assembling of electron microscopes, JEOL plans to manufacture environmental equipment for Chinese users in the new plant. The building will house a demo lab and system engineering facilities in the future.
