LaShelle Spencer is one of thousands of scientists to have left reviews on SelectScience®

A research scientist has told how leaving a review on SelectScience® ended up prompting an “awesome” customer service experience. It happened after LaShelle Spencer, a Research Scientist based at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, US, left an online review for Eppendorf pipette tips.

In her review, LaShelle said that she was generally very impressed with the pipette tips but mentioned she was having a few issues with ejection. In a video interview, the scientist reports how a member of the SelectScience team was in touch just a few days later and offered to put her in contact with Eppendorf.

An Eppendorf sales person then visited her lab and demonstrated the different tips that they could use to improve ejection. And in LaShelle’s words, “I really valued him coming down and spending the time with us, it was really awesome!”

We spend so much money on this large equipment and consumables, we might as well know, is it user friendly?

Why are reviews so powerful?

LaShelle Spencer is one of thousands of scientists to have left reviews on SelectScience, an innovative online publisher that provides vital information to scientists around the world, enabling communication about scientific products to help accelerate critical research globally.

She explained why reviews are important to both scientists and manufacturers and how the SelectScience site has proven invaluable both in helping her team decide what equipment to invest in, and in helping to resolve any issues they might have with that equipment.

LaShelle said she believed it was extremely beneficial to obtain an impartial opinion from other experts when purchasing expensive scientific equipment to advance her research. “We spend so much money on this large equipment and consumables, we might as well know, is it user friendly? Does it work when it comes out the box? Do other scientists like it?”.

Not only are product reviews helpful to the scientists that are using the products, says LaShelle, but they can also help manufacturers improve their products in accordance with scientists’ needs. “Any vender that is willing to do that, really has the end-user in mind,” she says.

LaShelle was lucky enough to win flights to Pittcon with her review. SelectScience regularly gives away great prizes to reviewers selected at random.
