LAUDA Presents the New ECO for Economical Temperature Control

With the new ECO, LAUDA surpasses its most successful and legendary equipment range, Ecoline. With the new ECO, LAUDA sets new standards in the sector for economical temperature control in the laboratory, from -50 to 200 °C. All device variants in the 230 Volt design are now immediately available.

The innovations and developments in the case of the ECO primarily concern the performance scope and ease of operation. The number of control heads has been reduced from three to two at the same time as increasing the performance scope. The control heads, which are called ECO Silver and ECO Gold, both have powerful circulation pumps with six power levels, a maximum pressure of 0.55 bar and a feed rate of up to 22 l/min.

A mini USB interface for connecting to a PC or installing software updates is available as standard with both control heads. Other interfaces such as the analogue, contact, RS-232-/485- and profibus module can be individually positioned in the available sockets. A further interface module available as an accessory is the so-called Pt100/LiBus module. This includes the connection for a Pt100 temperature gauge. By connecting a Pt100 gauge, both ECO Gold and ECO Silver devices are able to handle precise external regulation. Furthermore, a LiBus connection is included in this module, to which the Command remote control unit can be connected, for example. An additional innovation is the manually adjustable and extremely practical flow rate distribution. This allows individual and infinitely variable distribution of the flow rate between the internal and external circulation, even during operation.

In addition to the performance features described above, the thermostats with the Silver control head offer a monochrome LCD and a programmer with one programme and 20 temperature-time segments. These are suited to temperature control tasks up to 150 °C. Users who opt for a device with the Gold control head receive the equipment features of a coloured TFT display, a comprehensive programmer with 150 temperature-time segments distributed over five programmes, an integrated ramp function and timer switch as well as a graphical display of the temperature profile. The maximum temperature is 200 °C. The ECO menu navigation in plain text allows very easy and intuitive operation of the equipment. The RE 1050 S and RE 1050 G device variants reach a lowest temperature of -50 °C and still provide the substantial cooling capacity of 20 Watts. A further innovation: all cooling thermostats in the new ECO range will be available as water-cooled variants from the end of May 2010.

The heating thermostats are equipped with a transparent bath or a stainless steel bath. For the thermostats with a transparent bath, bath sizes range from 6 to 20 litres for a temperature range from 20 to 100 °C. Variants ET 15 S and ET 15 G are fitted with pump connections as standard and used by preference with the LAUDA PVS viscosity measuring systems. The variants with a stainless steel bath offer bath volumes of between 4 and 40 litres. All heating thermostats include a cooling coil as standard. Heating thermostat E 4, which is optimised for external applications, is supplied with a bath cover and pump set as standard. The cooling thermostats function reliably in the range from -50 to 200 °C and come with bath sizes from 4 to 20 litres. The cooling capacities are 180, 200, 300 and 700 W at 20 °C. The highest performance devices at 700 W are already fitted with the SmartCool system, which is familiar from LAUDA Proline. This produces a considerable energy saving, as only the cooling capacity actually required rather than the maximum cooling capacity is provided. All cooling thermostats come with a bath cover and pump set as standard.

The extensive portfolio of ECO devices with a total of 50 device variants offers the right solution for every application. The LAUDA ECO heating and cooling thermostats are used wherever precise and economical temperature control is required. Other typical application examples include sample preparation in chemistry and pharmacy, quality assurance, material tests, analytics and the area of life science and medicine.
