Logos Biosystems releases free web-based cell counting tool

Researchers are now able to perform cell viability analysis online using user-uploaded images

26 Mar 2025

Logos Biosystems, a biotech manufacturer of imaging systems for life science research, has announced that it has released a free, web-based cell counting tool, OnCellCounter, that will enable scientists and researchers to perform basic cell counting and cell viability analysis online for user-uploaded images.

OnCellCounter, is a free online resource available through the Logos Biosystems website. All researchers and scientists are welcome to use the web tool found through the following link: https://logosbio.com/oncellcounter/

The OnCellCounter platform includes three simple steps: 1. Uploading the sample image, 2. Setting parameters, 3. Clicking COUNT.

Users have the option to set parameters as they would using an in-lab automated cell counter. These include the following: Minimum search size (pixels), Maximum search size (pixels), Cell detection sensitivity (1-10), Live cell sensitivity (1-10), and Noise reduction (0-9). A user-guide is also available online and can be accessed here.

“As a company founded by and operated by scientists and researchers, we prioritize innovation and continually seek ways to enhance research efforts,” commented Neon Jung, PhD, CEO, Logos Biosystems, “offering OnCellCounter as a free webtool falls in line with the company mission of working to improve human health through the development of imaging solutions that truly help scientists and researchers achieve their goals.”

Logos Biosystems is well-known in the life science industry for the award-winning LUNA family of automated cell counters which have developed a credible reputation as cell counters that are accurate, precise, and produce reliable and consistent results.

The most notable of the LUNA family are the LUNA-II (brightfield), LUNA-FL(dual-fluorescence), and the LUNA-FX7 (high through-put, dual fluorescence, fully automated) cell counters. Also included in the LUNA™ family is the QUANTOM Txmicrobial cell counter.

The newest member of the LUNA family is the LUNA-III brightfield automated cell counter. Released in September 2024, the LUNA-III comes equipped with machine-learning technology, a redesigned autofocus mechanism, and a new Reanalysis feature designed to cut down on waste, conserve samples, and improve workflow.

In addition, Logos Biosystems offers the LUNA Reusable Slide (an eco-friendly and budget-friendly slide option) as well as the LUNA Validation Slide (both brightfield and fluorescence slides available), plus consumable products, such as accompanying disposable slides and reagents (Trypan Blue, AO/PI, Erythrosin B Stain, etc.)
