TAP Biosystems (now part of the Sartorius Stedim Biotech Group), a leading supplier of cell culture and fermentation systems for life science applications, is pleased to announce that its CompacT SelecT™, automated cell culture system has been chosen by a top ten pharmaceutical company to reliably produce consistent, high quality cells in plates, ready for use in transport assays.

CompacT SelecT is being routinely used to automatically culture and maintain a large range of cells in 24 and 96 transwell transport assay plates. With the system, researchers are setting up their cell culture seeding, feeding, expansion, plating and maintenance protocols to automatically produce consistent quality cells for extended periods of time. This flexible approach is allowing these scientists to have a constant supply of cell lines such as Caco-2 and MDCK for use directly in transport assays without having to perform time-consuming, error-prone manual media changes and feeding regimes at night or over weekends.

CompacT SelecT includes a unique SelFeeder liquid handling unit that allows scheduled feeds and media changes and also has a gentle liquid addition and removal action. This reduces damage to cell layers ensuring cell lines are successfully cultured for more consistent transport assay results.

Dr Dave Thomas, Product Manager at TAP Biosystems commented: "We’re delighted that this progressive pharma company is using our automated cell culture technology so successfully. Their adoption of the system to reproducibly generate high quality cell lines indicates to scientists looking to improve their workflow, as well as their transport assay performance that CompacT SelecT is a tried and trusted choice.”
