A new series of blast freezers provide researchers with a versatile and flexible sample preparation device for use prior to cold storage. The Thermo Scientific XBF40 series of -40°C blast freezers are for rapid cooling during the sample preparation process, prior to freezer storage. Available in two options: the XBF40D-MD, designed for rapid plasma freezing, accommodates plasma bags, boxes and bottles, while the XBF40D, for general-purpose applications, accommodates staggering loads and a variety of vessels such as carboys, bottles, racks with vials and more.

“Ultra-low and laboratory-grade freezers are not designed to rapidly freeze plasma and other critical storage, nor do they possess the necessary speed or refrigeration capacity,” said Joe Arteaga, global product manager, cold storage at Thermo Fisher Scientific “Our new blast freezer helps researchers save time during sample preparation and is also economical, versatile and easy to use.”
Designed to properly prepare samples for long-term storage and reduce stress on a sample storage freezer, the XBF40 series contain three individual compartments that allow users to rapidly freeze product at different points in time without jeopardizing the freeze profile of products already in the freezer.
In addition, the XBF40 series offers:

• Forced-air circulation for accelerated air flow to rapidly freeze product

• A self-contained refrigeration system for application flexibility, increase mobility and ease-of-use as a plug and play requiring no customized installation or remote compressors

• Adjustable shelves to allow users to place various types of containers
