New OxyELISA™ Kit Provides Quantitative Measure of Oxidative Stress

30 Jul 2008

Millipore Corporation, a Life Science leader providing technologies, tools and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, today announced the launch of its OxyELISA Oxidized Protein Quantitation kit, providing all reagents necessary for quantitative, high throughput detection of modified proteins in cells undergoing oxidative stress.

Oxidative stress is a cellular condition particularly relevant to aging and age-related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia. The OxyELISA kit, by providing a fast and sensitive assay for oxidation, can help researchers, especially neuroscientists, to understand the mechanism of cellular aging.

As result of oxidative stress, oxygen free radicals and other reactive species introduce carbonyl groups into proteins in the cell. The OxyELISA kit detects these carbonyl groups, which are hallmarks of the cellular oxidative stress level. The kit uses a direct labeled monoclonal antibody that is readily detected without a secondary antibody, making the ELISA assay more specific, easier to use, and faster.

OxyELISA users can count on full technical support from Millipore, complemented by a comprehensive offering of reagents and assays for analyzing oxidative stress. Researchers can investigate superoxide dismutase activity, tyrosine nitrosylation, oxidized glutathione, and more. The OxyELISA kit complements Millipore’s more qualitative OxyBLOT™ assay, which detects oxidation of individual proteins after separation on a gel.
