New Products for Automation Consumables

30 Jan 2012

Corning Life Sciences acquired Axygen BioSciences in 2009 to expand its global presence and portfolio of a complete array of tools for cell culture, drug screening and storage, and genomics and molecular biology. Products include automation-friendly robotic tips, HTS assay and storage microplates, bar coded storage tubes, filter plates, storage and assay plates, PCR tubes and plates, sealing mats/tapes and DNA/RNA isolation kits.

Corning, through its Axygen brand, has released a line of disposable pipette tips compatible with Hamilton STAR CO-RE automation systems. The Axygen brand has long held a leadership position in the aftermarket automation consumables market by offering its customers a wide variety of choices across numerous key robotic platforms, and the launch of its Hamilton-compatible line of tips further solidifies that position. Available in 4 sizes (10 µl, 50 µl, 300 µl, and 1000 µl) in both hanging tip rack and traditional deck-seated rack packaging formats—with a nested tip rack solution to follow shortly—these tips are manufactured with the same attention to detail and consistent performance that has been a hallmark of the brand since its inception in 1993.

To better serve the ever growing assay market, Corning has designed a new 384 well black clear bottom microplate that is identical to its solid bottom upgrade introduced a few years ago. The new design gives increased compatibility with automation (microplate gripping and bar coding). As always, the plate was tested to comply with Corning’s stringent standards, the plate tested with both tissue culture treated (TCT) and Corning CellBIND® Surfaces against equivalent competitive versions of the same microplate format. The new design showed improved performance compared to the microplates used in the assay when looking at signal noise, crosstalk and signal strength.
