Researchers in life sciences and clinical diagnosis processing now have a refrigerated small benchtop centrifuge designed to separate samples in a simple, safe and compact footprint, while enabling the flexibility to run a wide range of applications. Thermo Fisher Scientific will showcase its new refrigerated small benchtop centrifuge during the 114th General Meeting of the American Society of Microbiology (Thermo Scientific Booth #725), Boston Convention Center, May 18-20, 2014.

Expanding the family of Thermo Scientific small benchtop centrifuges, these new refrigerated models allow scientists to process samples at high speeds and high throughput, and feature innovative technologies, such as Thermo Scientific Auto-Lock rotor exchange and Thermo Scientific ClickSeal biocontainment lids, to achieve reliable, consistent results safely and efficiently. This instrument is an ideal solution for mammalian and bacterial cell pelleting, protein and nucleic acid purifications, pre-analytical separation of blood samples before downstream analysis and for spinning urine samples.

“With lab space at a premium, flexibility is crucial in order to adapt to evolving research or clinical needs,” said Maurizio Merli, product director, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Our new Thermo Scientific refrigerated small benchtop centrifuges take up just a little more bench width than a traditional microcentrifuge, but with high-speed spins and flexibility to run more applications, it ensures a more productive lab environment.”

The refrigeration system allows for a temperature range of -10 °C to -40 °C and can maintain temperatures when the chamber is not in use with the push of a button to eliminate long waits for set temperatures. These new refrigerated small benchtop centrifuges also provide:

• Application flexibility, with 13 rotor systems, ensuring efficient use of bench space, while providing the versatility to spin swing-out, microplate, fixed angle and high-speed microtube rotors.
• Push-button Thermo Scientific Auto-Lock rotor exchange to switch between rotors in just seconds, maintain cleanliness and reduce contamination with clear access to the rotor bowl for thorough cleaning procedures.
• One-handed sample handling with Thermo Scientific ClickSeal biocontainment lids, certified by the Public Health England, Porton Down, UK.
• Intuitive and glove- and detergent-friendly interface with a bright, backlit display, featuring one-touch operation with pre-set protocol options.
