New Synthesiser improves the efficiency and productivity of your chemistry

9 Jun 2008

Radleys (Saffron Walden, UK) has announced a new and improved version of their Carousel 12 Reaction Station - the world's most popular parallel synthesiser.

Like its predecessor the new Carousel 12 Plus™ Reaction Station has been designed to provide busy chemistry laboratories with an easy to use productivity tool that simultaneously heat or cools, stirs and reflux's up to 12 samples (1-20ml) under an inert atmosphere. Listening to users worldwide, the Carousel Plus includes a host of new and improved features that make it more flexible, easier to use, easier to clean and more resistant to chemical corrosion as well as providing improved energy efficiency and enhanced reaction tube visibility.

The Carousel Plus features a new removable reflux and gas distribution head that can be easily transferred, with tube sin situ, between the Carousel's heated base, cooling reservoir or support stand, providing the user with a uniquely modular system for heated and cooled reactions. The Carousel Plus includes a fluoropolymer insulation plate that sits over the heated base acting as a barrier to heat loss. Studies have shown that the Carousel Plus not only heats up faster but uses up to 36% less energy to reach the same temperatures as its forerunner. New viewing slots in the heated base provide users with an excellent view of the reaction tubes contents and stirring performance. The circular design of the Carousel Plus allows users to easily rotate the unit providing access to all tubes without having to lean into the fumehood.

Chemically resistant Easy-On caps incorporate a quick-thread and push on/off connections for rapid attachment to the tubes and radial gas system. Replaceable silicone Suba-Seal septum allow the addition or removal of reagents or samples from the reaction tubes using a syringe.

The small benchtop footprint of the Carousel Plus means that it uses minimal fumehood space. With no electrical or moving parts the Carousel Plus is extremely reliable. The Carousel Plus' also now features an easy to clean and chemically resistant fluoropolymer coating.

Operating from ambient to 180ºC (220ºC for shorter periods) with accurate temperature control of +/-0.1ºC, the range of possible reactions with the Carousel Plus is considerable. The addition of a cooling reservoir enables the Carousel Plus to be used to perform sub-ambient reactions to -78ºC.
