New Visiferm™ DO Self-Contained Optical Oxygen Sensor Delivers Fast Measurement
18 Feb 2009Hamilton Company, world leader in fluid measurement, announces the North American launch of the Visiferm DO- a unique optical dissolved oxygen sensor that significantly reduces measurement time with improved ease of use over classical Clark Cell technology. Symmetrical, heat-resistant, dual-channel optics and measurement amplifier are all self-contained in a standard 12 mm format. Polarization time that takes up to eight hours with traditional sensors is completed in as little as 15 minutes with the Visiferm. The sensor provides instant measurement with three connection options including 4-20 mA current, ModBus RTU interface or to traditional electrochemical transmitters and analyzers.
Hamilton’s Visiferm design, with just one replacement part, ensures ease of use and cost efficiency by eliminating fragile membranes and electrolytes that must be regularly checked and changed in traditional sensors. Calibration is simplified because data is stored in the sensor. The Visiferm is also flow independent and invulnerable to interference from acidic gases.

The robust Visiferm DO is ideal for a broad range of fermentation and cell culture applications in drug discovery and development, food and beverage manufacturing and wastewater analysis.
“Hamilton is the first company to offer a self-contained oxygen measurement tool in the typical 12 mm format,” commented Amber Ratcliff, distributor relations manager for Hamilton. “The design eliminates many factors that add compensating steps and measurement time to conventional sensors and customer reaction has been very favorable.”
