NorDx is Nation’s First to Acquire Sysmex XN-Series Automated Hematology Analyzers
2 Apr 2013NorDx (Northern Diagnostic Laboratories), the largest reference laboratory in the state of Maine and a member of MaineHealth, is the nation’s first clinical laboratory to acquire the new state-of-the-art Sysmex XN-Series Automated Hematology Analyzers.
The Sysmex XN-3000™ configuration enables enhanced diagnostic capabilities and greater efficiency that transforms NorDx into a formidable ‘accountable care’ laboratory model and shepherds in a new era of performance standards for quality care in New England, according to Stan Schofield, President of NorDx, Senior Vice President of MaineHealth. NorDx, accredited by the College of American Pathologists, offers a full range of laboratory services to multiple hospital sites, physician practices, and long-term care facilities in the tri-state region of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
“As a member of one of the nation’s top 100 integrated delivery networks, we understand that our clinical excellence starts with the core technology and clinical utility of our laboratory’s instrumentation and ends with diagnosis, treatment and improved quality of life for the patient,” said Schofield. “The Sysmex XN-Series Hematology Analyzer is a powerful new platform and strategic laboratory solution that is at the pinnacle of innovation and it sets an entirely new standard for testing sophistication and capacity. No doubt, this new equipment has broad implications for the health and vitality of our community, and it will contribute to the success of our hospital network long into the future.” Maine Medical Center also acquired the Sysmex XN-3000 Automated Hematology Analyzer.
The Sysmex XN-3000 features a menu of advanced clinical parameters that allows NorDx and MaineHealth to conduct cellular studies that enable the quantitative assessments of red cell, white cell, and platelet precursors, guiding diagnosis and treatment by the physician. These advanced clinical parameters include NRBCs with every CBC, immature granulocytes with every Diff, RET-He within the reticulocyte profile, and an all-new fluorescent platelet channel for IPF to aid the physician in the differential diagnosis of thrombocytopenia. NorDx and MaineHealth now have a greater opportunity to help physicians impact treatment guidelines, care pathways and patient flow. This has broad implications on the healthcare industry considering much of a patient’s medical record is comprised of laboratory results.
According to Schofield, NorDx and MaineHealth made the investment in the Sysmex XN-3000s to also help address cost and labor pressures, including projected shortage of medical technologists, increasing workload demands and the testing complexity of an aging population. The analyzer’s significantly smaller footprint optimizes efficiency of workflow, staffing and space. Smaller reagent sizes and concentrated reagents simplify consumable inventory management. The system offers unparalleled scalability and standardization across the enterprise to match the hospital’s current workflow, clinical parameters and informatics needs with built-in flexibility to adapt to new and changing environments.
The Sysmex XN-3000 is built on a breakthrough concept known as Silent Design®, a simplified system of operation and user interface based on careful study of operator interaction with instrumentation and laboratory sample processing.
