On-Line Water Content Analysis using Karl Fischer Titration

16 Feb 2007

Water determination by the Karl Fischer method has been utilized within the laboratory for many years and provides the accuracy and reliability required for true process control and product quality measurement in many industries.

The only drawback with using the laboratory approach is the response time generated by sampling, analysis and reporting. Further improvement in the control loop can be gained by automating the analysis within the process environment to both shorten the response time and to prevent any sample degradation prior to analysis.

Applikon Analytical have developed two dedicated analyzers for automated on-line Karl Fischer analysis suitable for all process environments to truly bridge the gap between the process and the laboratory.

The ADI 2016 KF Titro Analyzer provides water analysis by the volumetric titration method and is suitable for most applications with appropriate selection of reagents.

The ADI 2040 Process Analyzer can utilize the coulometric titration method to provide trace determination of water as well as higher concentrations by the conventional volumetric method. The ADI 2040 is also available in an ATEX certified version for installation into hazardous areas without further protection requirements.

To complete the on-line approach a full range of sample conditioning modules are available such as degassing units for liquids containing gases, expansion vessels for gaseous samples under pressure and simple pressure reduction devices.
