ORGENTEC Diagnostika has developed four new laboratory tests for the diagnosis of autoimmune liver diseases. The tests have been developed for fully automated analysis using ORGENTEC’s Alegria® random access analyzer, and allow for reliable differentiation between autoimmune diseases and other diseases of the liver (such as viral infections).

Autoimmune liver diseases include autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). If diagnosed early, these conditions are usually treatable. If left untreated however, they can cause considerable damage to the liver and give rise to serious symptoms.

The detection of specific auto-antibodies provides a clear indicator of auto-immune liver disease. The new ELISA based test systems developed by ORGENTEC (Anti-Sp100, Anti-gp210, Anti-LKM-1 and Anti-SLA) allow for the individualized, rapid, and fully automated detection of the auto-antibodies which characterize specific diseases. For example, the presence of Sp100 or gp210 antibodies, indicate that primary biliary cirrhosis is most likely. Antibodies against LKM-1 or SLA are indicative of autoimmune hepatitis.
