Pall Corporation, a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, introduces two new chromatography products, the PKP Chromatography systems and Resolute® FM columns. These products enable users in the biotech, vaccine, and plasma markets to more easily transition from bench scale to pilot scale or small manufacturing scale. The new products further strengthen Pall’s ability to provide total bioprocessing solutions to its customers by offering the tools necessary to ensure process optimization prior to committing to full process scale production.

“Whether customers are replacing an existing chromatography system, expanding their current infrastructure, or simply scaling up a new process, Pall’s chromatography solutions simplify scale-up from bench to pilot to final process scale, increasing productivity and improving economic efficiencies,” says Ken Frank, senior vice president of Pall Corporation and president of Pall’s Biopharmaceutical Division.

The compact design of Pall’s PKP Chromatography systems, with a virtually pipework-free flow path and stainless steel construction, ensures consistent operation within current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). This unique modular design reduces hold-up volume and allows for thorough cleaning up to 80 oC.

The PKP Chromatography systems are designed for optimum performance in a highly flexible operating environment, providing a broad flow range (1 to 150 L/h) that enables users to maximize product yield and purity, and process reproducibility. This versatility is instrumental at pilot scale, when system throughput becomes increasingly complex and product quality is a top priority. Equally capable of facilitating small-scale production for conventional or membrane chromatography, PKP Chromatography systems are also suitable for process optimization tasks.

Further enhancing Pall’s chromatography portfolio are the new Resolute FM columns, which are complementary to the PKP Chromatography system. These columns are available in three diameters (100, 140, and 200 mm). A unique tilt mechanism facilitates air removal and eliminates manual handling of a heavy adjuster and dependence on operator skill level. The column design allows simplified operating procedures to enable reproducible packing and unpacking of the most common chromatography sorbents.

Resolute FM columns have a simple design with fewer components than other pilot columns available, thus enabling easier maintenance without special tools. A borosilicate glass tube and stainless steel flow path provide excellent chemical compatibility and ensure a fully sanitizable column.

“Pall is continuing its commitment to providing a complete spectrum of chromatography solutions for every stage of laboratory to manufacturing operations,” says Frank.
