PerkinElmer, a global leader in application-focused measurement and analysis solutions, today announced a research spectrometer offering push button ease-of-use for the characterization of materials including inorganics, novel materials and semiconductors. The Spectrum™ 400 FT-IR/FT-FIR is an advanced dual-range spectrometer that combines mid-infrared (IR) and far-infrared (FIR) spectroscopy in a single instrument. With automatic beamsplitter changeover, it offers flexible performance for advanced research and industrial laboratories.

The flexibility of the instrument enables more rapid switching between a wide range of applications including time-resolved experiments where changes in a material’s property are examined as a function of time.

“The Spectrum 400 FT-IR/FT-FIR responds to the needs of laboratories conducting specialized experiments that require quick and easy switching between ranges,” said Richard Begley, Ph.D., president, Analytical Sciences, PerkinElmer. “Unlike single beamsplitter instruments, the Spectrum 400 spectrometer delivers precision and efficiencies for researchers working in both the mid and far spectral ranges. There is no need for two instruments, which in addition to cost savings, also means savings in both lab space and user training.”

PerkinElmer’s Spectrum Series spectrometers feature the patented Dynascan™ interferometer, which provides reliability and reproducible results due to an inherently stable design that does not require dynamic alignment correction. In addition, PerkinElmer’s Atmospheric Vapor Compensation (AVC) software removes spectral features that may be caused by water and carbon dioxide which would otherwise obscure the sample spectrum (thus removing the need to collect reference spectra) and displays compensated spectra in real time.
