Pro-Lab Diagnostics has announced the launch of a new enzyme immunoassay (EIA) for the qualitative detection of Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia antigens in human fecal specimens from patients displaying gastrointestinal symptoms.

Cryptosporidiosis can be difficult to diagnose using the traditional method of detection by microscopic analysis of stool samples which have been stained with organic dyes or direct fluorescent antibodies. Giardia infection is also frequently misdiagnosed as detection relies on poorly performing antigen-based testing.

The Pro-Lab Diagnostics’ Prolisa™ Cryptosporidium/Giardia EIA is a convenient, rapid and easy-to-use method of detecting these pathogens. The 96-well test consists of detachable stripwells, and offers precise results with high sensitivity and excellent specificity. The assay uses monoclonal anti-Cryptosporidium and anti- G. lamblia antibodies and can be used manually, or on most automated platforms for increased workflow flexibility.

Mark Reed, General Manager of Pro-Lab Diagnostics, commented: “The launch of the Cryptosporidium/Giardia EIA further extends the Prolisa product range, offering our customers a simple and cost-effective alternative means of testing for Cryptosporidiosis and Giardiasis with the back-up support of our team of application experts.”
