Protagen AG announces the launch of Modiro™ - The PTM-Explorer

7 Mar 2007

Protagen AG, a leading provider of products, services and software solutions for protein research, has launched its new Bio-IT software product Modiro™ - The PTM-Explorer. Modiro automates the identification of post-translational modifications (PTMs) of proteins to provide more comprehensive information while reducing the time for analysis.

Modiro analyses thousands of mass spectrometry profiles in parallel to identify unknown mass shifts, sequence errors and unspecific enzymatic cleavage of amino acids in high throughput. In a single step, Modiro enables these variances to be clearly visualized and evaluated via a unique interface. The analysis of many spectra in parallel, together with Modiro’s analysis interface, provides a more complete characterization of the protein faster than previously possible.

PTMs modulate the activity of most proteins, and analysis of these modifications has become increasingly important for drug discovery and development. Modiro enables protein researchers to identify more of these crucial PTMs in their proteins of interest. The developed algorithms in the software can generate more knowledge from existing mass spectrometry results.

Modiro can use mass spectrometry data from all leading instrument manufacturers. The program has been developed as part of Protagen’s long-lasting close collaboration with Bruker Daltonik GmbH, Bremen, Germany.

Protagen will introduce Modiro later this month at the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) 2007 meeting, starting March 31st in Tampa, USA.
