Remote Management of Blood Gas and Urine Analysers Powered by RAPIDComm 3.0

12 Apr 2010

Siemens has expanded its RAPIDComm® Data Management and Connectivity Solution Version 3.0 to CLINITEK Status® Connect Urine Analysers meaning that Point of Care (POC) coordinators and laboratory managers in the healthcare environment can now manage remotely multiple Siemens blood gas and urine analysers wherever they are in the hospital infrastructure. A single interface solution enables real-time access of patient testing instruments at the point of care, whether that is in the A&E department, intensive care or on the wards.

RAPIDComm 3.0 standardises testing procedures, facilitates compliance and improves risk management for Point of Care testing. It offers remote Quality Control (QC) lockout and operator lockout capabilities for testing conducted on CLINITEK Status Connect Systems ensuring only staff properly trained or authorised to operate can use the analyser. Additionally, remote status and event log monitoring, as well as real-time troubleshooting for RAPIDSystems® can now be conducted from a single workstation location. This reduces manual time of physically going to each analyser on site and ensures consistency across urinalysis and blood gas testing sites. RAPIDComm 3.0 also provides a single interface to the Laboratory Information System for all connected Siemens blood gas and urine analysers and generates individual QC and patient data reports.

The solution means POC coordinators or laboratory managers can monitor multiple analysers within the same facility or within the same network, even if they are off site. It also enables remote downloading of operator information, eliminating the need to manually add or delete operators from individual analysers. Additionally, the system provides a dashboard view of QC information, ensuring high quality test results and continuity of operations while protecting patient data.

“RAPIDComm 3.0 will drive consistency and productivity across the healthcare environment,” said Hilda Crockett, Marketing Manager Point of Care at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. “This new solution responds directly to customers’ needs for improved connectivity with an intuitive interface and remote monitoring capabilities - it really is the next generation of connectivity for Point of Care testing.”

The RAPIDComm system can be used with RAPIDLab® 1200, RAPIDLab® 800, RAPIDPoint® 400 / 405, and RAPIDLab® 248 / 348 blood gas analysers plus the CLINITEK Status Connect Urinalysis System.

Siemens’ RAPIDSystems family of blood gas analysers offers a comprehensive portfolio in critical care testing, delivering results near a patient’s bedside or supporting the demands of high throughput in a clinical laboratory. CLINITEK® is the most widely used urinalysis brand worldwide.
