RTS SmaRTStore Installed in US Biotech Company

10 Nov 2006

RTS LIFE Science's SmaRTStore has just been installed at a US Biotech Company in the San Francisco Bay Area. This installation of a single SmaRTStore has replaced a bank of manual freezers.

Perhaps more importantly, the automated cherry picking capability of the system has freed up valuable operator time from what was previously a tedious manual process. SmaRTStore has been integrated into the existing laboratory information management systems (LIMS) using standard API's.

SmaRTStore is the only small, automated store to provide storage for vials, plates and tubes at temperatures from ambient to –20ºC. In this application, the System has been configured to hold a mixture of 1 dram vials and 20ml vials. Cherry picking subsets of vials is fully automated by the SmaRTStore. Internal buffers allow subsets to be assembled even when the laboratory is unmanned, ensuring that the selected dry powder samples are kept in optimum condition until they are needed. The "vending mode" touch screen interface allows samples to be retrieved, stored and tracked via barcode, at the touch of a button.
