Scienceware® 12-Well Tissue Disaggregator Improves Cell Viability

16 Aug 2011

A new innovative product has been released from Bel-Art Products. Scientists can quickly and easily disaggregate multiple tissues samples to produce isolated cell suspensions for flow cytometry analysis or cell culture with the Scienceware® 12-Well Tissue Disaggregator. This unique, patent pending, multi-well device mates with standard 12-well culture plates enabling processing of tissues directly into culture plate wells.

Twelve wells speed processing time and reduce per sample costs by allowing multiple cell isolates to be produced at one time, unlike single cup designs. “Researchers can process dozens or hundreds of samples quickly and easily and realize up to 20% increased cell viability compared to using frosted glass slides,” according to Robert N. Petersen, Product Manager for Bel-Art Products. “There is no need for time-consuming transfers and no time or money is wasted creating “homemade” devices.”

The device is intended for use with any soft tissue sample such as kidney, brain, spleen or lymph nodes. The organ structure of these tissues can be disrupted by pressing them through the mesh using any suitable pestle-like item, including syringe plungers, cell scrapers, etc. A Double-ended Pestle from Bel-Art Products, catalog no. F19911-0001 will be available in the third quarter of 2011.

The Scienceware® 12-Well Tissue Disaggregator is fully assembled and ready for use. “A 70 mesh screen made from high-quality, 316-grade stainless steel is permanently affixed to the bottom of each well during the molding process, so there are no gaps or spaces in which tissue samples can become trapped,” says Petersen. “This eliminates sample loss and makes clean-up easy.”
