API Technologies Corp. has released a new technology to improve the repeatability and sensitivity of Raman spectroscopy analysis . Solas™, is offered as a “Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering” (SERS) substrate designed for use with a variety of existing Raman systems.

“Solas is a unique SERS substrate that offers the best repeatability and sensitivity of any SERS substrate on the market today,” said Bryan Ray, Ph.D., Product Manager, API Technologies. “It can be used in virtually any existing Raman reader and has a price point much lower than its closest competitor while also improving the repeatability of results. ”

Raman spectroscopy is a vibrational spectroscopy technique used to identify molecules. SERS is an advanced Raman technique that enhances the Raman signal of a compound on or near certain metal surfaces. Specific applications for SERS technology includes detecting trace elements in forensic lab testing, environmental contaminants in water, melamine in milk, explosive residues, and road-side drug detection.

Orders are currently being accepted for the Solas substrate. Complete Raman systems and adapters for use with existing systems will be available this fall. Additional information can be found at the company article page.
