SIGMA-ALDRICH EXPANDS PANORAMA™ PROTEIN ARRAY PRODUCT LINE WITH ADDITION OF PANORAMA™ HUMAN KINASE v1 ARRAY

27 Feb 2006

Sigma-Aldrich, (NASDAQ: SIAL) a leading $1.7 billion Life Science company, is pleased to announce the latest addition to its Panorama™ Protein Array product line, the Panorama™ Human Kinase v1 Array.

Developed in conjunction with Procognia Ltd, UK, and licensed exclusively through Sigma-Aldrich, the Kinase v1 protein array contains 152 commonly studied kinases. This array employs a unique fusion tag attached to each kinase that serves to tether and uniformly orientate proteins on the array surface, and has been shown to confer kinase functionality. This technology offers the unique advantage that allows proteins to behave in a sterically unencumbered manner on the array and potentially result in more physiologically relevant data.

“Kinases represent a significant group of proteins within the druggable proteome and, thus, are the focus of substantial drug discovery efforts in most therapeutic areas within pharmaceutical and biotech companies, as well as academia,” said Michael Hadjisavas, Global Strategic Marketing Manager for Proteomics and Cell Biology. “Given the growing and pivotal importance of kinases in virtually every cellular function, a dire need has emerged among researchers to study the ‘kinome’ in a multiplex array format. By providing a themed array of commonly studied kinases, researchers can study the function of this key protein family by performing multiplex assays for selectivity profiling with other proteins, antibodies, peptides, kinases and drug candidates.”

The Panorama Human Kinase v1 Array extends Sigma-Aldrich’s market-leading array portfolio for proteomic research, including arrays of proteins, antibodies, peptides and tissue extracts. Information on this array, as well as Sigma-Aldrich’s full line of array-related products for proteomics, can be found at http://sigma-aldrich.com/hpfm3.
