Sigma's new Prestige Antibodies™ are the Most Highly Characterized Antibodies in the Industry

3 Apr 2008

Life scientists require well-characterized antibodies as essential tools for protein studies, global proteomics analysis, as well as for clinical diagnostics. Although a large number of antibodies are commercially available through many vendors, specific antibodies still do not exist for the majority of human proteins and there is a lack of universal protocols for antibody validation.

The Swedish Human Proteome Resource (HPR) project, using an antibody-based proteomics approach, is exploring the entire human proteome through a high-throughput antibody production process. The HPA program generates protein expression profiles from the majority of human tissues and presents the data as immunohistological images, annotated and made publicly available via an open access database, the Human Protein Atlas (www.proteinatlas.org). The Human Protein Atlas displays a collection of over 2.9 million IHC images of normal and cancer tissues, of cell lines and primary cells.

Sigma® Life Science has entered an exclusive collaboration with the HPR and Atlas Antibodies AB to offer these antibodies through our Prestige Antibodies™ portfolio. Each antibody is highly validated in multiple assurance steps to ensure that they are the most specific products on the market. The antibodies are designed to have low cross-reactivity to other human proteins and to work in a variety of applications and tissue preparations. Prestige Antibodies are optimized on a single protocol and tailored for high throughput operations, providing time and cost savings to the researcher.
