Protection is a concern for anybody working in a laboratory environment and the wearing of disposable gloves is a daily occurrence to ensure personal safety. However, while gloves protect from typical laboratory hazards such as chemical agents, the increasing sensitivity of state-of-the art analysis methods like qPCR and mass-spectrometry means the samples have to be protected from contaminants like RNAses and foreign DNA/proteins to ensure reproducible, trustworthy results. In this context, it is alarming that more and more laboratory staff experience allergic skin reactions to wearing disposable gloves.

Contact Dermatitis
It is not just latex gloves that users can react to. Some people can react to the chemical additives in the glove, whatever the material. StarGuard™ nitrile gloves are true accelerator-free gloves. Gloves that are too small continually constrict the palm and stress delicate nerves, blood vessels, tendons and ligaments in your hands. In contrast, gloves that are too large force users to strain their hands to keep the glove material in place without bunching up. Even today, with all of the ergonomic information that is available, some professionals still do not equate wearing poorly fitted gloves with the development of workplace-related musculoskeletal disorders.   • Concerns with glove contaminants interfering with experiments or sensitive products must be eliminated
  • Working in wet conditions. A reduced amount of surfactants used during the manufacture of StarGuard™ results in an improved grip in wet conditions to rival that of latex gloves.
