The award for Sustainable Supplier of 2024 goes to Thermo Fisher Scientific, as voted for by scientists around the world.
With its corporate commitment, nominations this year highlighted how Thermo Fisher Scientific is working to significantly impact laboratory sustainability through various initiatives across energy efficiency, waste reduction, more sustainable products bearing the ACT® eco-label, alongside active efforts in education and advocacy.

Sustainable Laboratory of the Year
The award for Sustainable Laboratory of the Year goes to the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) implemented numerous impactful sustainability measures in 2024, including recycling over 66 tons of waste, introducing pipette tip box recycling at its Heidelberg site, and achieving significant reductions in plastic waste.
Their efforts extended across six European sites and included the ongoing promotion of sustainable practices such as the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF), with 61 labs receiving LEAF certification, including five achieving Gold status. These initiatives have contributed to a 30% reduction in landfill and waste-to-energy outputs from EMBL's headquarters.
