Taking the Guesswork out of Controlled Environments for Automation with Contained Air Solutions
29 Aug 2011Contained Air Solutions (CAS) is a supplier of Microbiological Safety Cabinets, providing safe environments for people and processes across a wide range of laboratory applications. CAS designers and engineers work closely with customers on a global basis to provide a wide variety of standard and specially engineered clean air solutions.
As laboratory automation becomes more popular, a need has developed to provide controlled environments to house robotic instruments, which can be validated to meet regulatory standards and guidelines.
In response to this requirement, Contained Air Solutions has developed a range of large Microbiological Safety Cabinets, pre-engineered to accommodate popular instruments from a range of manufacturers including:
• Hamilton
• BD Biosciences
• PAA
• Perkin Elmer
• Beckman
• Tecan
Each instrument model type requires an individual solution in terms of overall accommodation size, access for loading/unloading and servicing, power & data connections etc, to ensure efficient operation. This can cause integration issues between the instrument and the cabinet leading to loss of efficient instrument operation. CAS has worked very closely with robotics suppliers to develop instrument specific Microbiological Safety Cabinets, pre-engineered to meet the exact needs of each instrument type. This means that the combined installation provides a seamless automated solution inside a controlled environment ensuring efficient operation.
CAS can provide Class 1 or Class 2 enclosures, designed in accordance with the general operating principles detailed within the European Microbiological Safety Cabinet standard EN 12469:2000. Crucially the enclosures can be installed and tested to meet all the performance requirements of EN 12469:2000 including a KI discus (Operator Protection Factor) Test with the instrument in-situ within the enclosure. This ensures that the whole automated process can be validated to the requirements of the standard to ensure safe and efficient non attended operation.
