SteREO Discovery.V8 – the powerful basic instrument from Carl Zeiss for modular stereo- microsopy – is suitable both for routine lab and industrial applications and for advanced research work.

The addition of the Discovery V8 expands the breadth of the newly redesigned Stereo Microscope product offering which began in November 2004, with the introduction of the Lumar and Discovery V12. Its outstanding features are particularly beneficial for workplaces where the optical performance, modularity or egonomic convenience of a manual stereomicroscope with a common main objective are required. The fields of application include, for example, the electronic, semiconductor and automotive industries, particu- larly for optical inspection in the quality assurance and production areas and for the precise assem- bly and alignment of very small components. However, a powerful stereomicroscope is also required for optical examinations in research and development, e.g. in universities, institutes and research centers in the biomedical field for the screening, sorting and manipulation of specimens.

The optics of the SteREO Discovery.V8 set new standards for entry level, modular stereomicros- copes featuring a common main objective.
The result: higher resolving power, greater contrast and a better 3D effect compared to current standard instruments, providing visibly more information in the microscopic image for all biomedical and industrial applications.

The high degree of modularity of the SteREO Discovery.V8 allows the use of all accessory components of the SteREO Discovery family from Carl Zeiss, permitting it to be adapted to the individual requirements of a wide range of workplaces. Simple, basic configurations are possible for routine workstations, for example, while an extensive line of accessories is available to meet more specific demands, e.g. on ergonomic convenience or stability.

The modular design of the Discovery V8 allows for the addition of the Pentafluor, 5x position, Fluorescence Attachment to provide a perfect low cost, high performance entry level fluorescence stereo system.

Ergonomically correct components such as the ergotube and intermediate tubes can be used to optimally set the viewing angle and viewing height of the microscope. This guarantees a relaxed seated position at the workplace for long periods of time. The extremely stable stand design ensures low sensitivity to vibrations and stable specimen positioning, even with high final magnifications and heavy microscope systems.

The SteREO Discovery.V8 also meets the require- ments of its users with its zoom range of 8:1 with activatable click stops, manual focusing drive with a 340 mm focusing path, a generously dimen- sioned object space and scratch-resistant work surface. The microscope offers the largest object field in its class. Three high-quality objective series are available: Achromat S (high contrast, three-dimensional images), Plan S (additionally flat, distortion-free object fields) and PlanApo S (additional detail resolution without color fringes).

The new CL1500 EC. cold-light source delivers intensive, infrared-free light at an attractive price; the VisiLED system offers new contrasting possibilities through segmented activation of the LEDs and high reproducibility accuracy through storage of all illumination settings.

Various digital still and video cameras can be attached to the SteREO Discovery.V8 via standar- dized interfaces. For simple routine requirements, commercial digital cameras often suffice, while AxioCam high resolution microscope cameras and AxioVision imaging software from Carl Zeiss are offered to meet more demanding require- ments in image capture and analysis.
